Factors Affecting Quality of Life of the Elderly in Municipal Area, Phetchabun Province
The purposes of this research were to (1) study the level of quality of life, and (2) study factors affecting the quality of life of the elderly in Phetchabun municipal area. The samples were 528 elderly, with the age range of 60-74 years, who lived in 17 communities of Phetchabun municipal area. The sample size was defined by using the random table of Krejecie and Morgan, and selecting by multistage sampling techniques. The instrument used was a questionnaire with reliability of 0.994. The statistics used for data analysis were frequencies, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, Person correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis.Findings were as the followings:1. The overall level of quality of life of the elderly in Phetchabun municipal area was at high level, ranged from mental health, physical health and environment, and social relationship, respectively.2. Factors affected the quality of life of the elderly in Phetchabu municipal area were home environment, position or status in the community, activities participation, education level, and types of family. They further explained the overall quality of life of the elderly by 35.5 percent whereas the effective variables in predicting the quality of life of the elderly ranged from home environment, position or status in the community, educational level, and the types of family, respectively. Hence, it is expected that If these variable are improved, the elderly in Phetchabun municipal area will have better quality of life.
